Order Now- Feb 21, 2010 ODE TO A ROADKILL and more...
I have three exciting things to tell you about. I have just completed recording my first solo album called ODE TO A ROADKILL. The title track refers to the sad reality of the millions of animals who die each year on our roadways. 7 songs, over 40 minutes of brand new music. I have been a fan of slow "stoner" music for many years, and this album definitely fits that category, with my own influence to it, of course. I'm really pleased with the way it turned out and look forward to having you all hear it as it is super, super heavy. All "vocals" are done utilizing majestic, creepy, haunting, unaltered animal calls. Cool album art designed by Jared Meyer — aka Lucid Hysteria. The album will be available as a 6 panel Digipak CD and an online download. Looking at a release date of March 10, 2010 — right around the corner. http://tourniquet.bandcamp.com/
ODE TO A ROADKILL — brand new "stoner" solo album from Tourniquet drummer Ted Kirkpatrick
Ted Kirkpatrick: all instruments, tracking, and mixing
Recorded in Wisconsin February 2010
At the same time, I have been working on a different solo project also very soon to be released called IN THE SHADOW OF THE MASTERS. It is a very technical drumming album featuring drums played over classical music. I've done a few things on past Tourniquet albums, but I think this is beyond anything so far just in length of the pieces. IN THE SHADOW OF THE MASTERS will feature music by Mozart, Chopin, Rossini, Beethoven and more. Release date: March 30, 2010.
Finally, we will be recording a brand new epic TOURNIQUET album in July or August, 2010. We are excited to announce that we will be working with legendary English producer NEIL KERNON. Neil has either produced, recorded, mixed, or engineered a staggering amount of cool music from classic metal (Queensryche, Dokken, Judas Priest, Autograph) to death metal (Nile, Cannibal Corpse) to progressive music (Nevermore, Magma) to hair metal (Britny Fox) to Christian bands like Petra, to classic bands like Kansas, to platinum selling albums like Hall and Oates "Private Eyes". We plan to release it as soon as it's finished in fall of this year.

- Dec 18, 2008 Merry Christmas from Tourniquet
As we celebrate and ponder the birth of our Lord, I thought I would share a true short piece I wrote a while back. We wish all of you a very Merry Christmas!
The Tree's Unlikely Fortune"I knew if anyone would appreciate these, it would be you", my friend Randy, owner of a local nursery and fellow tree aficionado, said as he helped me load the scraggly leafless specimens into my trailer. They were, by all accounts, the dregs of the hundreds of trees in stock at the nursery. "These are a free gift to you" he said. We had already loaded seven or eight magnificent bottlebrush buckeye shrubs into the trailer, which several American plant experts refer to as "the most beautiful shrub in North America". Next to these, the four homely Kentucky coffee trees seemed even more out of place, one would dare say even pathetic. But Randy knew how I felt about these trees. They were, in a subtle way, fine looking to me - with their distinctive deeply furrowed light gray bark. I also knew how awesome they look when leafed out.
So off I went to our property in the country, with nursery stock in tow. As one would expect, I planted the butterfly-attracting bottlebrush buckeye in prime locations, knowing in late summer, the giant candle-like flowers would be covered with colorful swallowtails and other impressive butterflies. I looked at the scraggly stock left in the trailer. Stuck in soiled black plastic pots, overgrown roots struggling to break out of their hard plastic prison, these nondescript trees spent their days being passed up by every shopper at the nursery. They were eventually relegated to a corner behind a shed, out of sight with no chance of experiencing the freedom of escaping their pots and feeling soft fertile ground underneath them.
"These Kentucky coffee trees will get the very best spots" I said out loud to myself. I carried them one by one, each one seemingly more haggard-looking than the last, to the most beautiful spots on the property. After digging a large hole in the rich cool black earth, I took out my garden shears and carefully began cutting the root-bound plastic pot away from the first tree. I tossed the plastic pot aside and placed the leafless tree, now free of its confining existence, in its new permanent home. If trees could talk, this one let out a long "aaaaaaahhhhhhh..." After planting and mulching all four in similar manner, I smiled as I pondered their exceedingly unlikely good fortune. Their new home was quite the tranquil scene — behind them, a wind-break of stately sandstone rock outcroppings. In front of them, a beautiful lowland prairie, complete with a gentle winding trout stream. And all around them, a variety of other greenery, sprouting profusely under the warm spring sun. Within fifteen minutes, a brightly colored goldfinch found a new perch on one of the trees planted near a birdfeeder.
As I stood behind them, squinting into the bright afternoon sun, I was struck with the realization of a similar exceedingly unlikely good fortune. My fortune... well, all of our fortunes. There is a living God who takes our confining, hopeless existence — our unsightly sin, our unremarkable character, our stifled soul, and does something exceedingly unlikely. Because of his great love for us, He sets us in a place far beyond our dreams — a place of true fellowship with Him. As we begin to seek Him in our daily lives, we feel the ground underneath us strengthen, the richness of our life experience widen, and the sun above us brighten.
Psalm 52:8 — I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God's unfailing love forever and ever.
